MG Car Repair: Sealing core plugs, core plug, core plugs

Question
Would epoxy be a suitable sealant to use with a new steel plug

Answer
Hi Peter

It's not a bad idea to put a thin smear of epoxy glue such as Araldite on the inner surface of a core plug to stop it rusting, but there is no need to use any sealant.  Most classic cars have convex dished core plugs, and all they need is to be flattened with a suitable large object such as the face of a ball pein hammer.  Hit the other end with a mallet and try not to dent the core plug inwards.  As you flatten it, the core plug expands outwards and seals without sealant.
