Mitsubishi Repair: 2000 Verada TCL light flashing + loss of power, wheel speed, abs light

Question
During a recent trip the tcl light started flashing and there was a gradual loss of power eventually dying to max speed of say 60km.  The first workshop said the ecu said it was the tps so they reset it.  The car worked fine for about 50km before occurring again.  So the second workshop replaced the tps, but same thing happened further down track.  The current workshop is at a loss, the computer is coming up with no errors and they want me to send the ecu away for diagnosis.  Do you know what may be causing the problem?  Everyone so far has ignored the tcl light flashing.  is it insane of me to think that it could be due to faulty speed sensor etc?.  Thanks very much for your time.

Answer
Dan,
The TCL light can come on when there's an air intake problem.  The TPS was a good place to start, but your workshop needs to inspect the MAF/MAP sensor.  When there is something that goes wrong with engine management, the car generally shuts down traction control as it assumes it probably cannot control it correctly. You would generally get a "check engine" light with that, though.
Or, you could have other issues. However, if you were to have something like a wheel speed sensor failure, you would probably get an ABS light appearing as well.  So be sure to have the workshop check any sensor and component associated with the air intake, and hopefully be able to reveal the cause and correct the problem.
Good luck!
