Mitsubishi Repair: Serpentine Belt, bolt and nut, mitsubishi outlander

Question
I have the DY5060725 serpentine belt, it is the same size (72.5") as the one I took off our 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander. It seems really tight, I even had to pry it on there without out the tensioner (I know that's a no no, but after an hour I was going crazy.) Should it be that tight without the tensioner engaged?

Answer
Samson: No the belt should not be that tight without the tensioner engaged. You never pry it on, because you can mess up another things in the engine by doing this. Did you get all the marks line up right? Do you have a adjusting bolt and nut? I work mostly on Eclipses but still maybe you forgot to loosen something that you should have and that is why the belt was so tight as to be put on. I think I would step back, cool down a bit and look around again. With a good light so you can see the engine, check things there might be a adjusting bolt and nut that you forgot to loosen. Oh one more thing how did the belt coming off the Outlander? Was it tight to pull off? Still I would check around, I bet there is a bolt or nut that you needed to loosen and have not done so. Hope this helps and good luck! Linda
