Mitsubishi Repair: overheating/non-functioning radiator fans, 2003 mitsubishi outlander, mitsubishi outlander

Question
I have a 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander with a over heating problem,I have replaced the thermostat, temp sensor, but I notice my radiator fans don't work.I am up to 85,000 miles and not replaced any parts other than the ones I have stated. I have read answers to related problems and am aware that I must change these parts to resolve most of my problems, but I not sure how to resolve the fan problem...could you tell me what the box on the outside of the fan housing does and what it is called, please?
Thanks

Answer
James: First off I maybe should have let this question go, as I mostly work on older models. But still I did check my repair manual and it talks about that the fans are controlled by a fan motor relay, which is to be in a black box up by the firewall. If the fans don't work at all, I would say that relay is out. There is also a fan thermo switch for those fans too. That might be the answer to your question as to the box on the outside of the fan housing. Again I am sorry as I do work on older model cars. But still I wanted to try to answer your questions. You could go get yourself a repair manual for your car at a parts store and it would explain everything you want to know. They cost around $20.00. Hope this helps some and good luck! ~Linda~
