Mitsubishi Repair: Stuttering Mitsubishi Galant Viento 1999 model, shaft sensors, mitsubishi galant

Question
Car stutters (as if choking for gas) upon acceleration and engine light comes on.  Only driving at low speed, i.e. 'safe mode'.  Was told I need 2 crank shaft sensors (one above and one below the shaft???).  What is your take on the matter.

Answer
Gaynell: If the check engine light is coming on, your car's computer is picking up some problem in the system. You don't say who told you, that you need those sensors. If you got an AutoZone close by, I would have the car coded there just to be sure, as they will do it for free. In my manual a crank shaft sensor sends the information to the computer and then the computer determines the firing order. Sure they did not say you needed two oxygen sensors? I guess just to be sure I would have the car coded again, you want to buy the right sensors because the darn things can be costly. The coding is when the they took your car's computer up to their computer and it kicks out why that check engine right is coming on. I would have that checked again, before you just go out and buy two sensors you might or might not need.  Then you would know for sure what it is that you need. And get them bought and put in. Hope this helps and good luck! Linda :o)
