Mitsubishi Repair: 1991 mitsibishi 3000 gt vr4 ecu, vr4, bob bob

Question
I have a 1991 3000 gt vr4 that has a burned up ECU. I understand that there were problems with resistors heating up in these. I have also been told that there is probably another reason that this burned up because it was trying to compensate for another failing part. I think it was the idle speed control module (or something to that effect) Does this sound feasible? Hate to replace the ECU and have it go out again. Bob

Answer
Bob: Ok, who told you all this about your car's computer? And that idle speed control module which is a "sensor" mounted on the throttle body and yes controlled by the computer. But heck there is a lot of sensors all though out your engine controlled by the computer. Who told you all this? You car is the right year for the computer melt down, well a piece in it leaks all over other pieces and then kills off the computer. So replace the sensor and the computer. I mean do you trust whoever told you this? Have you seen the computer, smelled it well some of those computers when you get close to them; they smelled burnt. But not always. You could have your car coded to see if there is there is anything else wrong in the way of sensors as well as the computer. AutoZone will do it for free. Other wise any shop with a way to hook your car's computer up to their computer and then you get a read out as to what is going on. Only way to be safe and make sure you are not getting charged for something you really do not need. Some shops are good at that. But more likely they do this to women than men, one reason I decided to learn all I could about cars. Anyway, I hope this helps you and good luck!
