Mitsubishi Repair: 97 Eclipse Crank Pulley, crank pulley, propane torch

Question
I am trying to change my timing belt and can not get the crank pulley off. Is there a trick to getting the pulley off? I am using a 3 jaw puller and it will not budge.

Thanks,

Fred

Answer
Fred,
If you have the turbo engine, simply removing the 4 bolts from the crank pulley holding it to the crank sprocket should be enough to remove the pulley.  Sometimes a few taps with a rubber mallet will help.

If you have a non-turbo engine, you'll need to remove the crankshaft damper bolt first, then you will need a puller to remove the pulley.  Mitsubishi uses a special insert in the middle of the puller to help give it leverage.  Though you can probably improvise an insert that will work as well.  Heating up the pulley with a propane torch may also help break it free.
Good luck!
