ANSWER: Ron,

Things happen.  The seal and valve cover replacement are not part of this issue.  I would replace all the coils as soon as possible.  The 1999 through 2001 had issues with coils.  rockauto.com or courtesyparts.com are both good sources for coils.  A ten millimeter to get the coils loose is pretty much what you need to change the coils.  The knock sensor should be done by a shop since it is a pain to get to.  If you have the tools and determination you could change that too.  Then, reset the codes and you will be fine.

QUESTION: do not think it has coils because it has a distributer i have already replace it 2 times since been reading the same 300 code the mechanic said we could have gotten a bad 1 the first time. so my other question is does it have coils and if so how many? if i replace the knock sensor will it fix the problem?

ANSWER: Ron,

If the distributor has been replaced then I would check the wires and plugs.  You will only have one coil.  The knock sensor should be replaced and that will correct the knock code.  The multiple misfire code usually is the coils on multiple coil engines and plugs on ones with the distributor.  Do not use Bosch plugs on your car.  NGK or Nippondenso are both good.

QUESTION: would bosch plugs make the knock sensor code come on as well. the car acts as
if it run great for a few miles but then it starts to act as if it looses power or is starving for gas it also doesn't get but about 250 miles to a tank of gas and does not have the power it should the car is a great car but it is starting to be costly and i don't have the money to go though the process of illimination so please help & you have been so far but i steal can't figue out what is wong with my car    ps thanks Ron

Answer
Ron,

The knock sensors on Nissan products tend to fail.  It is defective if the code shows it.  The Bosch plugs must work great for German cars but they do not work well with Nissan cars.  Get the knock sensor from rockauto.com and save some money on the part.  A pain to put in but you will get your mileage back.
