Motorcycle Repair: 1984 Honda 650 Nighthawk, honda cb, honda 650

Question
QUESTION: I recently bought a 1984 Honda 650 Nighthawk. I am looking for a diagram of gas line flow from tank on. The petcock was missing so I do not know where the lines go from there once I get one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ray

ANSWER: Hi Ray,

The gas lines are not as complicated as it looks as most of the hoses
are just fuel venting lines to capture gas fumes. The fuel line
will leave the tank or petcock and go to a fitting in the lower
center position on the carbs.

The carbs fuel bowls are connected together so one line can feed
them all. The petcock will have a vacuum line that goes to the
intake near the engine to provide vacuum to open the petcock
when running.

Some bikes have a remote vacuum fuel shut off near the carbs.

If you had a fuel pump or filter then the fuel line would go to it first and then
down to the center fuel fitting on the carbs.

The other smaller lines are all connected to air vents on the carbs
and usually end up going to the air cleaner so the fumes can be recycled
through the engine to meet emissions.

QUESTION: I have another question on a turnsignal issue. The front lights come on, the right will get brighter when the switch is activated. The rear lights do not come on at all, the tail light does come on. I am not sure where the relay is located. Is this just a relay issue or are there other wiring issues I should be looking at. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ray

Answer
Hi Ray,

The signals won't flash until the rear lights are working.
I would check the rear bulbs, sockets and see if
power is getting to them. Also make sure they have
a good ground.

The left signal is an orange wire and the right is light blue.
If the fronts are lighting up the relay might be okay
if the rear lights get some power and grounds and
good bulbs.

If the front and rear lights will come on each side but no flash then
check the battery is up and then try another relay.

The relay is usually behind the battery holder, it should be a black box.

The signal switch sends power to both the left or right side lights
if all is working. The battery power first goes to the signal relay and
then to the signal switch and then to the lights.

It sounds like the rear bulbs are out or wires disconnected somewhere.

Let me know if you need more info.
