Recently bought this bike and almost made it home on it..when gearing down to make the turn on my road, it struggled to go into 1st gear..made the turn and it wouldnt shift out of 1st..pulled over and tried shifting with my hand..seemed to work okay..pulled out on road and got up to speed to shift and heres where it got interesting..shifted to 2nd fine but when I gave throttle, tranny popped, rear wheel locked up, and engine stopped!! After wrestling it to a screechin' halt, I couldn't get the rear wheel to unlock or get it in neutral..had to drag the bike from center of road with wheel locked up..anyways, finally got it in neutral and the rear freed up..now the kicker will move only to about the 10 o'clock position and is locked up! Tried to push start it and the rear wheel locks up again..what to do?? Im going today and getting a service manual..by the way, the tranny is the reversed gear pattern from an fxe I think..

Answer
Without looking in the tranny, its going to be hard to say exality. You could have a bent shifter dog, bad cam plate, damaged gear, ETC.
What you are going to have to do is pull the tranny out, remove the top and do an inspection checking the spacing an dchecking the shims
Good luck and happy riding
