Motorcycle Repair: 72 Honda cb175 initial carb setting/ tuning, honda cb175, air mixture

Question
Hey Bill,
I own both a 1972 CB 175 k5 and CL k6. The various repair manuals I have all  give an initial setting for the air mixture screw (turn in till seats then back out 1 1/4 turns) but never is there any mention in any of the manuals of an initial setting for the idle speed screw. Where should you set this idle speed screw as a preliminary setting after reassembling the carburetor?

Answer
JB....  I just set the idle screw so it just starts to move the slide up, then turn a about 1/16 to 1/8 of a turn more. That should allow the bike to come to a low-medium idle once you fire it up. Make sure the ignition timing is set correctly first, before doing final adjustments on the carburetor speed/mixture screws. Warm the bike up thoroughly before doing final idle speed adjustments.
