Motorcycle Repair: CB900 custom main bearings, main bearings, bill silver

Question
I want to replace my main bearings and according to the manual I need to cross reference the codes on the crankshaft with the letters on the engine housing.  My problem is the only letters or numbers on my crank are a 10 on one lobe and an "AW" on the other lobe, no other markings.  How can I determine what bearings to get.  Thanks.

Answer
Tim, the chart cross reference is here, but probably the same as your manual.

You will have to mic the crankshaft with a metric caliper/micrometer and use the figures to match the chart. Then, use the crankcase stampings to get the other dimension and color code for the bearing shell.

Are the bearings worn or damaged? Use some plasti-gauge to check clearances. Unless the engine has a million miles on it or are damaged from debris, they may not need replacing. You can measure the thickness of the old ones, as well, to check against any replacements.
