Motorcycle Repair: 83 magna carburetors, honda vf750c, vacuum ports

Question
Motorcycle Repair: 83 magna carburetors, honda vf750c, vacuum ports
both sets of carbs
Bill thank you for being an expert to, maybe, help me.

1st the set-up.  I have an 1983 V45 Magna: VF750 C.  I was in the process of cleaning the carbs when I had a cross state move come up.  In that carburetor body #4 was left in the cleaning solution for seven months instead of 30 minutes.  Not sure if it will work properly now or if I could clean it well enough to work.  SO I purchased a set of carbs used.  I scavenged the 4th carb and cleaned it to replace the over-cleaned carb body.  I carefully compared the two carb bodies and they seem the same, however I noticed a discrepancy when I started to assemble them.  The replacement carbs are stamped VD51C AUG and the original carbs are stamped VD51C AUF.

The question: Will the replacement body work with the other three carbs?  And the not so obvious question, would it be better to use the carbs as a set instead of replacing one of a set?

Thank you for your time

Answer
Beau, in general the differences between carb body IDs like this are in the calibration, but not always. Compare the carb bodies carefully for any differences in the fittings (vacuum ports, etc.) and if they look identical, you can then check the jets and needle profiles to see what differences there might be. Use the jetting that the bike came with, unless you have different exhaust or intake systems, then you have to experiment to get the right combo.
