Motorcycle Repair: Carb 1979 Honda CM185T, horizontal screw, point gap

Question
What are the correct settings for idle mixture screws for a carb from a 1979 Honda CM185T and can you help me identify which one is for what.  I am not a trained mechanic.  I got this going after a thorough cleaning of tank, fuel line and carb but it was idling at a very high speed.  Thank you!

Answer
Carl, the horizontal screw at the middle of the carb body moves the slide up and down...changing idle speed.

The mixture screw is at the front towards the intake manifold, mounted vertically.

#6 is idle mixture  #8 is idle speed.

Before you go too far with the carb adjustments, be sure that you have adjusted the valves to .002" and have set the point gap to .014" and the point plate so the points just open at the F mark alignment on the rotor index marks. One those baselines are set, then you can make fine tuning adjustments on the carb. Idle mixture screws usually start about 2 turns out to start, then warm up the engine fully, adjust so that the idle speed is correct, then turn the mixture screw to achieve a maximum idle speed/smoothness. Then, set idle speed back down to specs, if necessary.
