how do i check tranny fluid levels in my 74 superglide?

Answer
It depends on what kicker cover you have. Looking at the kicker cover is there a small allen head plug just to the left of the kicker? If there is then remove it and fill the trans just until oil runs out that hole and put the plug back in.
If you dont have that and no dipstick on the fill plug then fill it until its about 1" below the fill hole
