Motorcycle Repair: Primary Gasket, 883 sportster, harley davidson

Question
I have a 94/883 sportster hugger Harley Davidson. I have a small oil leak and believe once the primary gasket is replaced or place on it, it will stop. Also, how long is the labor and the location for the primary gasket. Which tools would be needed to replace a primary gasket.

Answer
Time should take you about 45 minutes.
First, drain the fluid. Loosen the adjuster on the cable so the cable is shorter. Now remove the rear derby cover on the primary cover. There will be a spring behind it and a well nut. remove them. Turn the adjuster so that the next nut screws off. Now, remove the primary cover. Put on the new gasket and install the cover. Screw the nut back on the adjuster and set it so the adjuster screw just gets tight. Put on the next nut and spring and install the derby cover. Adjust the cable so you have about 1/8 inch play in the lever. Go to the center cover on the primary and remove it and put in 32 ozs of sport-trans oil.
You would need a set of allen wrenches, screwdrivers, couple of 1/2 inch wrenches and 9/16 wrenches
Good luck and happy riding
