Motorcycle Repair: timing?, sportster 1200, clutch fluid

QUESTION: hey thanks for all the great advice on oil and clutch fluid , i do have another problem with my 94 sportster 1200 i believe it is the timing , i lossened the cover to buff it  out and when i pushed it back in it seems the bike is backfiring and out of time what should i do as my timing cover is riveted i would appreciate any advice again thanks for all the help

ANSWER: Which cover are you refering to when you say you loosened is?

QUESTION: the lowwer right cover which the smaller cover is riveted too

Are you talking about he whole cam cover? If you are then you need to remove it if you slide it out. There is a gasket behind it and it will probably leak. You also could have loosened the timing plate behind the timing pickup. It sites in a groove and will need to be checked
