Motorcycle Repair: Honda Shadow Sabre Acceleration Problems, honda shadow sabre, stock air filter

Question
QUESTION: Hello There,

I have a 2003 Honda Shadow Sabre 1100. I recently bought it and noticed that it has some acceleration issues after 55mph. When i accelerate from 0-55 - it accelerates fine but it struggles to go from 55mph to 70mph when it maxes out.
I changed the Oil on it: Used 3 rounds of SeaFoam to clean the injectors - but still no avail.
Any ideas? I plan on changing the spark plugs to see if that might help. I wanted to change Fuel Filter: But am not sure how to do that. Any help/guidance is appreciated.
Thanks!!

ANSWER: Could you give me more info ? Did this bike sit for an extended period of time ?
Is the exhaust and intake stock ?
What condition is the air filter in ? Is there anything in the way of the air intake down by the airbox ?
Thanks...

QUESTION: Yes, the bike did sit for extended period of time - almost 6-8 months without being driven.
Exhaust and intake are stock...

Air Filter's condition I'm not too sure of: I'll take a look at it this weekend and check if there is any blockage.

I noticed that even during acceleration: There are times when it whines a little and acceleration flattens. There seem to be times when the throttle is opened and it feels like it is not getting gas: other times it accelerates great. Noticed great acceleration when started from a stop. When i accelerate from 40/50mph - it hesitates and slowly accelerates.

Thanks a ton for taking time to answer my question: Highly appreciate your time..

Answer
The answer to your problem is a full systemflush of the gas tank, a complete tear down of the carbs, all of the jets need to be cleaned by hand, carb cleaning liquids and sprays will not clean the pilot, idle, circuit jets, These need to be removed and you must run a very thin wire thru these jets to clean their insides completely. Then you need to spray carb cleaner through all of the passages in the carb body.
This will fx the issue... lots of work but no way around it.
Thanks !
