Motorcycle Repair: Evo 883 Pushrod, copper wire, push rod

Question
Mike,
I removed the rear rocker cover and assembly to replace the top end gaskets. When trying to reinstall the push rods, I could not get the check valve, of the tappet, to release to re-seat the push rod. All I had to use for this was a small copper wire to go through the push rod to release the check valve.
Is there a specific tool and procedure to accomplish this?

Answer
What you need to do is install the pushrods and before putting the top rocker covers. Rotate the motor so the front exhaust valve is open all the way. Now let he bike sit for about 15 minutes and it will bleed down. then rotate the motor and do the next one. Do this for each pushrod. If you dont you can hit the valve on the piston.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
