Motorcycle Repair: Oil leaking from the carb, butterfly valves, saddle bags

Question
I have a '01 Sportster that was an 883 but was converted to a 1200. Recently oil has been coming out of the carb. It builds up on the inside of the cover and after about 75 miles of riding, the oil ends up on the pipes and on my saddle bags. Any thoughts on what this might be a result of? I've heard everything from valves to dirty filter (although I did clean it once I heard that may be a cause). Is this typically of this model? Not sure where to start. Thanks for your time.

Answer
Your bike vents air to the air filter from the motor. Its when the pistons go up and down and makes pressure and has to be vented somewhere. When this happens a small mist of oil goes with it and gets trapped int he air cleaner.
You have butterfly valves in the rockers that are rubber that over time get weak.
there are some aftermarket vents that you can install that will vent the air away from the air box and vent under the motor that will stop the problem
Good luck and happy riding
