Motorcycle Repair: Electical Problems, honda ignition, plug caps

Question
My father passed away and left me a 1976 honda twin motorcycle. He talked about how the bike has electrical problems and it won't start because of them. I have little mechanical background and am wondering where to start from. I do have the repair guide somewhere at my moms house. Any suggestions on what might be the problems?

Answer
Antonio,

try this webpage for Honda ignition timing.

Also you need a good battery to start these
bikes. Check the fuse or fuses.

You should have 12 volts going to the
ignition coils with the key on. Coils
are under the gas tank.

The spark plug caps can be a problem.

Check for spark with a spark plug,
lay it on the engine with the wire
connected. Try starting the bike
and see if it sparks.
Make sure the engine stop/kill switch
is on "run"
