Motorcycle Repair: 1973 CB450 AIR FILTER??, honda cb450, honda cm400e

Question
CANT FIND AN AIR FILTER FOR MY 1973 CB450. I HAVE THE OLD ONE AND IT
IS A ROUND CANISTER TYPE SEALED AT ONE END. IT HAS A PRINTED PART#
"FH-2" ON IT IN THE CENTER AND  STAMPED IN THE METAL AROUND THE
EDGE ON THE BOTTOM ALSO IS "HM447-AF". AS A NOTE THE FRAME IS
STAMPED CB450 AND MATCHES THE TITLE, BUT I HAVE COME TO NOTICE
THAT I COULDN'T FIND A # STAMPED ON THE ENGINE ITS SELF. I FOUND A
RAISED PIECE OF METAL ON THE ENGINE WHERE I THINK IT WOULD BE, BUT
APPEARS TO BE CHISELED AWAY AT SO THERE IS NO NUMBER?

Answer
Brian.... I'm confused... are you?

look familiar?  CM400E, also later on it became a CB450 model in about 1982-86...WRONG BIKE! The 447 is a product code number, indicating the model series. You are looking for 292 code series parts for a 73 bike... or are you?

If your bike is a 73 CB450, then it should look like this, instead:

If the HM447 filter actually is for your bike, then it is 1982-86 (earlier ones should fit from the CM/CB400T series, as well). Big difference between 71 and 83, isn't it?  Maybe the 73 was a typo....?

Sounds like you have a stolen motorcycle (or engine) there. There are frame numbers on the left side of the steering head (frame neck, where the forks pivot). On the right side you may still see a sticker with the production date and serial number, too. If you don't have an engine number on the left side top case, then you may have a serious problem getting the bike titled or registered.
