Motorcycle Repair: 77 sporty, side shift, cracked case

Question
I have a 1977 xl ironhead sporty, I have a majorly cracked case caused by an improper installation of a kick starter, the case has been welded once before and I dont feel it to be trustworthy of being welded once again. I have searched high and low for a replacement set of cases, nothing out there I can afford! I have a buddy that has a 1973 ironhead motor that is not running, is it possible to pull all the parts out of my 77 and swap them onto the 73 cases? Will my left side shift switch over to right side shift style cases without major work? Or am I limited to breakin the bank and buying what I cant afford? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Answer
The 73 case in not going to work. You going ot have to find some 77 cases to replace yours. You can check at some swap meets for cases and see if you find any. the only other thing you are going to be able to de is buy new ones. I have repaired quit a few cases, if you are interested give me a call and I might be ablet o repair them
Good luck and happy riding
