Motorcycle Repair: 1980 kdx 250 cdi, kdx 250, nature of the beast

just  got this bike and it wont make spark. checked and cleaned all grounds. checked cdi unit diode,seems good. need to know what cdi units are compatable and if another would change the way the bike ran. this is my first bike and i really want to ride,so i want to get it breathing fire.

I know of no interchange charts for CDI units.Because of the nature of the beast they are usually specific to each bike.This is a good question I will do some checking and post if I fine any more information.
I would say a trip to the dealer is in order.
