Motorcycle Repair: 2003 yamaha raptor 660 battery wont charge, yamaha raptor 660, 2003 yamaha raptor 660

Question
raptor runs/starts fine until the battery loses charge, the last new battery only last about 15-20 hours of riding before i had to charge the dead battery.  Seems like the atv is not charging the battery while running.

Answer
When the engine is running take a volt meter and check from positive side if battery to a good ground. You should get around 14 volts or higher. If not your battery defiantly is not charging.

Now find the 3 wires coming from the stator these wires are usually yellow or white but there will be three. They will be connected to the rectifier. Unplug the wires from the rectifier and check the voltage at each wire stator side (this test with engine running ).You will have to set your meter on AC not DC voltage. You should get a reading of about 23 volts or so from each wire.If you get a good reading from the stator.Replace the rectifier no reading from any of the three wires bad stator. Also with your meter set on ohms check each wire to ground if any of the wires go to ground bad stator.
