Motorcycle Repair: 1984 Honda Shadow 700, honda shadow, carbs

My son got this bike and is trying to get it up and running.  New battery was bought for this, but the problem we are having is that it will not stay running after the started button is released.  What does the problem sound like to you? And is there any way of fixing this problem? Thanks John

It sounds like the carbs need cleaned.This would be a very good place to start.
If you go to this web page you can download the service manual it is for the Sabre & Magna but this is the same bike.
