Motorcycle Repair: Shifting fork, suzuki rf900r, shift linkage

Question
I have a 1995 Suzuki RF900R with what I believe to be a bent second gear shifting fork, causing the bike to jump out of gear. I am told this happens from downshifting without using the clutch. I now use the clutch every time. What I need to know is what covers need to be removed to access the forks? The manual is not real clear as to what needs to be done to get to them. Please let me know what needs to be done. Just a basic answer, I am mechanically inclined (20 year diesel/turbine mechanic) so no need for extreme detail. Thanks for listening. Aloha!

Answer
If this in line 4 runs true to form you will have to remove the engine from the bike and remove the lower case half. What you are looking for lurks there in.Right behind the clutch. Before you do all that I would certainly check every thing external first.Shift linkage check your manual in this regards.I have seen the linkage to the shifting drum broken or damaged so check it out.It may not be what you think it is.
