Motorcycle Repair: First edition Honda dream 305, honda dream, california dmv

Question
I recently bought a Honda Dream 305 that has dropped out of the California DMV system. I am trying to determine the year of the bike so I can register the bike. The bike has an original black and gold California plate that I do not want to loose... any suggestions  I can send the VIN on the frame and the one on the engine

Thomas, my Honda Dream restoration guides on CD have all the information about how to date the Dreams, through 1965. From 1965 onwards, the serial numbers were 7 digits and continued sequentially until the end of production in 1967, so the breakdown between 1965, 66 and 67 is blurry. The pre-65 machines are very apparent in their serial number sequences, as to the year of manufacture. There is also a white tag on the wiring harness, up inside the frame that may have a date on it.

The engine and frame numbers will show me the information you require.
