Motorcycle Repair: starting problem when hot, plug colors, plug caps

Question
Hi I have a 1996 zzr1100 (D4) when the bike is hot it has trouble starting or will not start, if i leave it to cool it starts ok and run fine.

Answer
Mike,

-the fuel mixture could be a bit rich or lean,
or it may be weak spark or low compression.

-is the bike running a normal hot temperature
or could it be overheating?

-try checking the spark plug colors for clues
on the running conditions.

-the fuel tank vent in the gas cap could
be plugged, is there pressure or vacuum
in the tank when hot? The rubber can swell
blocking the air vent.

-does the choke cable have enough slack to
allow the choke to close fully?

-is the starter turning the engine okay?

-is the air filter clean?

-plug caps okay? (5kohms)

-fully charged battery? Tight connectors?

-try some different fresh fuel.

-the compression should be within 10-14 psi
between the cylinders and 150-200 PSI.
