Motorcycle Repair: Push rod adjustment, hydraulic lifters, rod tubes

Question
Hello again mike, 75 shovel.......I am replacing the cork seals in my push rod tubes. In the book I am using it only talks about hydraulic lifters and I seem to have solid lifters(tappets)?? When putting the push rods back in place it says tighten the adjuster nut till the tappet is completely compressed (mine don't compress) then loosen it 1 3/4 turns and then lock it in place with the tapered lock-nut.....what I need to know, is the 1 3/4 turn the same for hydraulic and sold .......Has someone changed the lifters in the past??.......hope you can understand my question.....thanks

Answer
If you have solid lifters then you asjust hem as follows.
Installt he pushrod and rotate the motor until the lifter is all the way at the bottom of its stroke. Now adjust he lifter, just until you can still turn it between your fingers and then tighten the locknut. recheck it, making sure it will turn loosly between your fingers. Do this for each one and your set.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
