Motorcycle Repair: ?, gsxr 600, penetrating oil

i recently purchased a 99 gsxr 600. usually i can start the bike in or out of gear. lately after i start the bike sometimes it will die when i shift it into first gear. when it does this the only way ive gotten it to stay running is pushing the bike and shifting on the go. its also cut off while travelling at highway speeds. it took me 30 min. to get it to stay running in gear again

Hey Bryan,

I would say its more than likely your side stand switch. Next time you have this issue try and this happens, try to push up on the kick stand, and see if the bike will run. If the kickstand is hard to push down or sticky going up, theres a good chance its not pushing the safety switch all the way until the bike is moved around for a bit.. Just lube it up with some penetrating oil, that should cure it..
