Motorcycle Repair: Clutch, clutch plates, metal plates

Question
I am working on a 74KZ400 and the clutch does not release you can shift gears but while in a gear you can squeeze the clutch and the bike will not roll like it won't disengage.  This bike has been sitting for like 10 years and it is not currently running. i adjusted the cable but that does not seem to help.  The rod that releases the clutch does not push in by hand or by pressing with a tool is that what is wrong? any help would be appreciated.

Answer
Nathan,

-when bikes sit for that long the clutch
often dries up and the clutch plates
stick together. This may be some corrosion
or rust on the metal plates.

-I think after a 10 year period
you may have to pull the clutch cover
off and try to separate the clutch plates
and they may need sanding or replacement
depending on their condition.

-Soak them well in oil before reassembling.
The clutch rod can not push in with the
clutch plates stuck.
