Motorcycle Repair: blinkers, honda cb250, added resistance

Question
Hi Wayne,

I recently bought a 2004 Honda CB250 (in Australia but I believe that they have the same name in North America). It is going well but just yesterday a problem started. The left indicator works but when I put the right one on the rear light stays on constantly and the front on doesn't come on at all. The little light on the control panel (if that is what it is called) stays on constantly as well. It seems to me the problem is probably in the switch area or maybe inside that panel of indicator lights. Do you know where the problem is likely to be? Would it be worth taking these apart and cleaning them out? And seeing if I can see a problem? About two weeks ago the bike was out in a fair bit of rain. Do you think that might have caused a problem or would it have been too long ago?

Thanks for your help. Sorry if I have been too wordy.

Dave.

Answer
Dave,

-if the left indicators are working, that means
the system is basically okay, likely just
a burnt out signal filament in the front
right signal bulb.

-It could be a loose wire or bad ground to the light.
The switch is the last place I would check.

-The light is not flashing because
it needs the added resistance of the front
light bulb to kick the flasher on.
