Motorcycle Repair: installation of a speedometer, electronic speedo, bike mike

QUESTION: I recently purchased a basketcase 2000 sporty 1200, minus the speedometer.  I purchased a mini speedometer,"Drag Specialies", cable and the drive.  Could you give some pointers and advise on the installation.  I am learning how to wrench the hard way. Thanks

The reason I ask this is becuse the 2000 sporty has a electronic speedo, not a cable drive. What you would have to do is remove the front wheel and make sure the drive unit will work with your bike. the drive unit takes the place of the spacer for the wheel. Once you have it installed, then install the speedo and wire it. Then just attach the cable to the drive unit, by screwing it in and then attach it to the speedo by a nut that should be with the cable.
