Motorcycle Repair: My battery wont stay charged, regulator rectifier, necessary output

Question
I have a 1981 kawasaki CSR 650 I got from my brother in law, i got a new
battery for it and rode it for a little while and now it wont start unless I jump it, I
got a new battery thinking that it was a bad one but it does the same thing. I
know nothing about bikes and want to learn but don't know where to start with
it. Anything would help me. Thank you

Answer
Josh,

motorcycles have a charging system that
should put out about 13-14 volts DC at your
battery when running about 3000 rpm's.

-If you can get hold of a multimeter or
someone that owns one you can
hook up to the battery positive and
negatives terminals and see if it
has the necessary output to charge the
battery.

-you can also check for loose connectors
coming out of the engine electrics.

-if the output voltage is low it may
require more detailed troubleshooting
to test the stator and regulator/rectifier.
