Motorcycle Repair: Losing Cluth Master/Slave Cyl. Fluid, yamaha royal star, clutch system

Question
have a 1997 Yamaha Royal Star, not the Tour model. My question is: iam losing brake fluid from my clutch system, i keep haveing to add fluid especilay when i ride a lot. I checked for leaks in the system eveywhere i can think of but dont see any leakes, where is the brake fluid going? I am useing DOT 4 fluid and have completely bled the system and filled with fresh new fluid. Is it leaking into the crankcase or somewhere where it will hurt the Engine?

Answer
Just how much do you need to keep adding,? Judging by your question it appears to be a significant amount, and as you say it has to be going somewhere. If there is no visible evidence, it therefore must be internally within the clutch system. I would say it could be detrimental if mixing with any other oils, or entering the engine alone, however that I doubt. Nevertheless, hydraulic oil as you may know is designed to convey high pressures under compression, which you can imagine would damage components in the vicinity, it is of course corrosive as well. Have you had a look in side the clutch system yet, the clutch is wet isn't it, try checking out the oil in the clutch, hydraulic oil is pungent, wit a distinctive smell, if it's in there you should smell it, and you'll need to get to the bottom of it before your clutch is damaged.
