Question
hi wayne. i have a dr100 and i am not getting any spark .how can i check if the coil in the flywheel is working that brings voltage to cdi unit. the other coil that is beside the cdi that is attached to the spark plug is good and the plug is new. Thanks.

Answer
Gus,

-the exciter coil can be checked with
a multimeter set on "AC" voltage.

-Just unplug the wire and connect
one wire to the engine (ground) and
the other to the coil wire.

-Be careful, they can put out up
to 200 volts on some bikes.
You will have to turn the engine over
to get a reading and it will vary with
the engine speed.

-you can also just check it's resistance
with an multimeter set on ohms.
It should read around 50-200 ohms.

-also the pulse or trigger coil can be checked the same
way, resistance is also about 100-200 ohms.

-you can try disconnecting the kill switch
if you haven't tried that yet.

-check the CDI connectors for corrosion
and check any ground wires as well.

-check plug cap.
