Motorcycle Repair: hub grease, bikebandit com, speedometer gear

Question
I have a 1968 Cl350.  I am replacing the front bearings and oil/dust seals.  I understand that I should pack the bearings and hub with grease, however, I'm confused about how much I should pack the brake panel side that houses the speedometer gear that is engaged by the hub.  Thank you

Answer
Tom, You can get sealed bearings from a bearing supply house or auto parts stores under 6302U. Better to just get some new sealed bearings than having to clean, inspect and repack the old ones that are 40 years old.

New grease seals have a dimension of 26X42X7mm for the wheel bearing ends. 54X66X7 is for the speedo drive.

You can pry out the old seal in the speedo drive side of the  brake panel, clean out the grease and re-grease with the same amount that you see in there now. They do not have to be packed completely full. If you over-grease the drive unit, you will get grease on the brake shoes.... not a good idea!
