Motorcycle Repair: 98 honda shadow ace, honda shadow ace, honda shadow ace 750

Question
hey there i have a 98 honda shadow ace 750 and my situation is this i bought the bike about a year ago and switched the pipes. a few weeks ago the bike started to act up so i sent it to the honda dealer that i bought it from and they said that it needed the carbs syncronized.so i told them to do it.well that did not fix the problem so i sent it back and then they said that it needed jets not to be sinchronized.so as i could not afford to do that {plus i was not really trusting their diagnostic capabilities}i now turn to you and this website.the bike is acting almost like it is running out of gas but it has gas.the bike will run fin in nutrual but under a load it starts to do this the bike has new plugs and new fuel and air filters and i checked the coil with a timing light and it is loosing spark.so i switched the coil from front to back but the same problem so it is not the coil so i am at a loss here i am just trying to get my bike running again please help what should i do next?where are the parts located on the bike or what do they look like?that i need to check someone told me to check the pulse generator but i am unsure what the part looks like or where it would be and how to test it.PLEASE HELP ME.....SEAN

Answer
Hi Sean,

Well, youve bee ripped off for paying the dealer to Sync carbs. If YOU  have never tried to Adjust them, they stand good from the factory. They have a spot of paint on them to keep people from messing with them. 2nd, a paule coil will either work, or it wont. 3rd, have you checked the carb boots for an intake leak? Does the bike run better with the choke/enrichner on? Try spraying the boot where it meets the engine while its idleing. If the idle goes up, down or the bike dies, replace them or the gaskets which seal them. If all else fails, you may have to look into a carb CLEAN, not a sync. Thats a waste of your time and money if theyve never been touched, thus it not helping your situation..

Hope this helps!!
