Motorcycle Repair: transmission, best bet, good luck

My question is when i am in first gear and shift to second its fine. but when i try to ride in second it slips out of gear. so most the time i just shift from first to third and its fine. what could possibly be causing this. and if it means a rebuild what does that normally cost?

There could be several reasons. Your shifter cam might be bad, shifter dog is bent or a bad bearing. Either way your trans would hae to be removed and rebuilt to determine what the problem is.
I cant comment on cost, due to the fact you never told me the year and model of the bike. Also, labor rates are different all ove the country. Your best bet is to call around and get some prices on the rebuild.
