Motorcycle Repair: 94 PC800 (honda), head gasket, oil leak

Question
I found a great deal on a '94 Pacific Coast.  Owner claims there is a small oil leak.  Do I need to pass of the bike or what kind of $$ might I be looking at?  Owner claims maybe cam plugs but not sure.  Thanks very much.

Answer
Burton,

-depends where the leak is, if it is just
cam plugs it might be reasonable to repair.
If it is leaking at the head gasket the
repair is much higher cost.

-See if you can tell where the leak starts,
is it up near the cam cover or down lower
near the head and cylinder mating surface.

-some leaks are not too serious, will he
let a mechanic look at it or
do you have anyone that might be able
to help you examine it closer?

-some gaskets will "sweat" a bit of oil
but leak very little. This kind of leak
is not a big deal.

-does the bike run smoothly otherwise?
it should idle down and not shake too much
at idle. Is the engine very noisy?

-see if it starts okay and look it over
well, not much else you can do other
then get a dealer to check it over
before you buy.
