Motorcycle Repair: Electrical Problems ZZR1100, check air filter, kawasaki zzr1100

Question
I have Electrial problems with a Kawasaki ZZR1100 1990 C model. My spark plugs seem to carbonize very quickly. I have poor spark from the coil system, some cylinders are ok but 1 & 4 give little spark. I have changed the Coil system and leads. I change spark plugs and tend to get about 1month of good performance, then need to change them again. Top end has been rebuilt about 1 year ago and bike is powering like new since but, I am left with changing plugs all the time. Can you assist in any way. Thanks for your time in advance.

Regards,
Ken ZZR1100 owner

Answer
Ken,

-I would suggest switching the coils,
testing the leads and caps. Make
sure coils are not too close to
the frame.

-Check battery charging, cables and battery condition.

-Check ignition ignitor or module connectors
for poor connections.

-check for good engine and coil grounds.

-pickup or pulse coil air gap of .015"

-could be carb enricheners not closing,
check that the plungers are not
worn, give cable 3mm of slack.

-do not open throttle when choke (enricheners)
are used.

-try changing plug gaps, try wider gap if it
runs okay.
-use NGK-CR9E plugs.

-check air filter and air box.

-may be bad valve seals on 1 and 4 or
last possibility is a coolant
leak past head gasket. May
cause white smoke.

-possible bad ignitor or ignition module
or bad new coil.
