Motorcycle Repair: oil leak, pushrods, oil leak

Question
I bought a 2001 1200 cc sportster custom it has only 2800 miles on it, both lower rocker box gaskets are leaking  the shop wants  $450.00 to replace both gaskets. How hard is this job to do? I am fairly well mechanically inclined and do 95% of my auto repairs.Could you help me out in this repair. Are there  any special tricks I should know? I don't want to mess up my bike. Thanks in advance, Randy

Answer
Its not that hard of a job. Remove the upper rocker box and the middle ring. Remove the bolts that hold the lower ring on. Once it is loose you will have to remove the pushrods. Make sure you mark them, they are different lengths. Install the new gasket and the lower rocker box and then slide the pushrods in. Tighten everything down and your good to go.
Good luck and happy riding
