Motorcycle Repair: 1340 Evo Clutch Replacement, clutch tool, clutch replacement

Question
QUESTION: Mike I am looking at replacing the clutch on my wifes 95 Electa Glide Classic.  It has a 1340 Evo engine and has had a clutch replacement which I think someone botched. Can you give me the instruction.  I want to be able to replace this clutch myself. Also where is a good place to purchase a clutch cage that matches original clutch? Would you provide instructions on how to do the wrenching and setting/tune or adjust the clutch once I have replaced the clutch basket.  Will be waiting for your answer. Thanks in advance.

ANSWER: Do you have a clutch compression tool?

QUESTION: Yes,for the basket to be compressed. A friend that worked at HD is going to lend me one.

Answer
First, drain the primary fluid and then remove the primary cover. Remove the adjuster in the center and install the clutch tool. Remove the outside clutch plate and the disks. Take the new disks and soak them in primary fluid for about a 1/2 hour and install them the same way the old ones came out. Install the pressure plate. Loosen the adjuster ont he cble so you have some slack in it. Now install the clutch adjuster. Slowly turn it inward, just until it bottoms out and then outward about 1/8 of a turn. Tighten the locknut and button up the primary. Now, at the cable, adjust it so you have about 1/8 inch play in the clutch lever and tighten the locknut. Install the primary fluid and your good to go.
Good luck and happy riding
