Motorcycle Repair: removing starter, dyna low rider, harley dyna

hi im really new to the world of motorcycles and since you kindly offer your help im trying to help a friend restoring his cycle to running conditon and hes having problems removing the starter i would really appreciate if u can tell me how to do it the right way ..in kinder garden terms..meaning step by step any and all help would be appreciated..  he  has a 1997 harley dyna low rider..thank you once again for your time and patience

Hi Rene,

What he'll need to do is remove the BLACK (ground) from the battery, then remove any exaust pieces in the way for the starter. Once this is done he'll need a 1/4 or 5/16 Ball Allen 6" long. If you are unsure what this is, go to a sears or local tool shop and ask for it, they should be able to help you. (its an allen wrench on the end it has a ball in the shape of an allen wrench so the tool can be tilted to one side) Then remove the 2 bolts on both sides of the starter, unplug the trigger wire, and slide the starter out! Viola!
