Motorcycle Repair: motorcycle engine, kawasaki gpz, wd 40

Question
I have A 1985 Kawasaki gpz-kz 550. It starts and run with out A problem, But lately it's been running A little slow ,And what I mean by that is that when I pull on the throttle it starts off slow then it picks up speed.I think it needs A tune-up. I always change the oil and the filter, and I know that's not the problem. I also can't get my gas cap off, I used my keys I sprayed wd-40 in the key hole and nothing.I live in an appartment an I leave my bike outside coverd up.It mite be because of the weather I really don't know. And that's all that's wrong with it.I am also looking for parts for it,is their A website that you know of that I can go to for all the body parts I mite need. THANK YOU for your time.THANKS A LOT.

Answer
Hi Rick,

Maintenance at regular intervals is a good idea. Keeps her running well.

It's common for gasoline left in the float bowls to varnish (gel) with time. This is the most common repair complaint/request at shops every spring. Varnishing can occur in as little as three weeks.

I'd guess the gas cap lock is corroded or seized by ice in the tumblers. WD40 would melt ice formation. If frozen, try warming the key while separated from the lock. Re-insert it into the lock and allow it to radiate heat into the lock.
