Motorcycle Repair: ignition switch, starter solenoid, starter button

hey justin, im new in the bike world, i changed my ignition switch on my bike, the thing is that i had trouble finding the exact switch for my bike,so i called a used part store and they sold me a used yamaha switch from another model so what i did was cut the old switch and tried connecting the used one put all the wires together all the lights turn on but when i hit the start button i wouldnt crank at all it doesnt even make a noise. i called them and they told me the starter fuse went out. i didnt so they told me it can be the starter relay. can you help me out please.

Joel,
with your clutch in, side stand up and kill button
off, you should get power to the starter
solenoid when you push the starter button.
The battery connects to one side of the solenoid
and the starter to the other bigger post.
The solenoid connects these two, sending power
to your starter.
Use a test light and check for power
on the smaller solenoid wires when you push the
starter button.
If there is none, you have to trace the wires
from the fuses to the starter button,
they may run through your ignition switch.
