Motorcycle Repair: 87 Softail Puking, oil tank, oil pump

Question
My '87 Softail  (stock except for ignitian and S&S Super E) has started puking oil out of the crankcase vent into the breather if it sits for few day without being started. Any possible solutions? Doesn't seem to be a problem if I ride every other day.
Thanks

Answer
Your problem is that your oil tank sits higher than your motor. You have a check valve in the oil pump that is suppose to keep the oil from leaking down. When the bike sits oil will drip into the motor and when you start it, the oil pump cant pump it out fast enough so it comes out the vent.
There is a check ball and spring in the oil pump. You might have a speck of dirt holding it open or the spring is weak. Remove the spring and ball and reseat the ball. use a punch and tap the ball with with it and a hammer to reseat.
Good luck and happy riding
