Motorcycle Repair: Replacing Choke Cable Assy/Enrichener Valve, harley sporster 1200, cable assy

Question
I am going to replace a choke cable assy on a 2001 Harley Sporster 1200 XLH. Any instructions, tips on how to do that task? My bike was idling rough with choke pulled out and I touched the choke knob and it shot right right back in without any pressure. So I thought that maybe the choke wasn't operating correctly. Needles to say I cracked the plastic nut! My bike was blowing a little black smoke as well. I also was thinking maybe the enrichener valve might be stuck. How do I pull the enrichener valve and should I clean it or just replace it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Answer
Since you cracked the knob you are going to have to replace it.
Remove the air cleaner and carb. Loosen the nut on the back of the know. It shoud be 11/16. The know will slide out a slot. You will see a nylon nut for the enricher at the carb. turn it with a 9/16 wrench until its removed. Install the new enricher. When you put the cable back in the slot be careful and not tighten the 11/16 nut to tight or you will crack it again.
Good luck and happy riding
