Motorcycle Repair: I have two questions for you, honda cb 750, clutch adjustment

Question
I have an 82 honda cb 750 custom and i need to figure out how tighten the timing chain adjuster.

Number two I also have a 82 Yamaha xj1100j Maxim. And i need to adjust the clutch for a new set of clutch pads. Is there any way you can help?

Answer
Hi Billy.

The information that you seek is located in the repair manuals for those bikes.

Re: the CB750C
There is a cam chain tensioner adjustment on the engine about half way across on the front and/or rear of the cylinder heads, right between #2 and #3 cylinders.  There is an adjusment rate that is listed in the repair manual, but each one is different for each bike.

Re: the XJ1100J
Clutch adjustment on Yamaha's normally are made at the top and bottom of the cable where it attaches to the handlebars and engine.  The top one is for clutch freeplay and the bottom one is for clutch cable tension.  If you are having trouble, then perhaps the problem is that the clutchplates need replacement.  Check them against the specs in the repair manual to be sure.

Good luck and ride safe.
